The name GK Sierra stems from the tradition and history of the intelligence and investigation services. “GK” is an initialism of our parent company Genoa-Knowlton Inc. a private corporation formed in the State of Delaware.
Genoa = Genoa, Italy ~ the birthplace of Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472), who is accredited with the invention of western encryption methodology.
Knowlton = Thomas Knowlton (1740-1776) The United States of America’s first intelligence professional. His unit, Knowlton’s Rangers, made a significant contribution to intelligence gathering during the early Revolutionary War. Knowlton was killed in action at the Battle of Harlem Heights.
Genoa-Knowlton’s mission and purpose has been to support the intelligence community with encryption methods and information assurance technologies. Primarily a think tank, Genoa-Knowlton saw value in creating a operational arm dedicated to information system security auditing, IT Security consultation, Investigation and client specific clandestine services. GK Sierra is a result of that endeavor.
